Award Winning Teaching Staff
At Medbury, we are very proud of the calibre of our staff whose common goal is to 'Unlock Every Boy's Potential', and they are all committed to creating an environmnet which encourages, motivates and challenges the boys. Medbury employs more than 70 full and part-time staff, including teachers, administration, grounds and maintenance, catering and boarding staff. Our continuing professional development programme ensures that all our teachers and managers are up to date with the best practises in teaching and learning and further developing and enhancing their skills.
Independent Schools of New Zealand 2017 Honours Award
Glen Taylor, Director of Sport, received a 2017 ISNZ Honours Award for Services to Physical Education and Sport, and was presented with his award at the ISNZ Conference in April 2017.
Since joining Medbury in 2007, Glen has developed a Physical Education and Sports programme which provides accurate, specific, individualised formative assessment on each boy’s progress in the physical education curriculum. He has also developed sports academies to cater for boys who wish to receive further specialist coaching within the major sports codes. Glen is an outstanding teacher, sportsman and role model. He has that ability to be a phenomenal sportsman who can coach students of all abilities and make them feel positive about the experience.
NZ's Most Inspiring Teacher 2013
Micah Hocquard was announced as the winner of the Primary School division for the 2013 Warehouse Stationery NZ's Most Inspiring Teacher at the end of October.
Mr Hocquard has been at Medbury since 2009 and is currently a Year 8 teacher and a specialist Science and Maori teacher. He was nominated by one of his current students, Sam Howard, who secretly completed the nomination form online and then campaigned amongst his fellow students to ensure Mr Hocquard won the title.
