A warm ‘Medbury Welcome’, to all of those visiting this website.
It is a great honour to be the Acting Principal at Medbury School. I have been involved in education for over 15 years, teaching in a range of independent and international schools in New Zealand, England and Asia. My wife Liz, also teaches at Medbury and we have two young children, Olive-Mae and Harry.
Visitors to Medbury often acknowledge that it is very different to other schools. The foundation of our school lies in our 12 Medbury Values, which are re-enforced in assemblies, chapel services and daily lessons. Medbury is boys only Year 1-8 independent school and our dedicated staff have an understanding and a passion for boys education. Our Boarding House is an integral part of our school life, and home to up to 43 boarders from different areas of New Zealand and overseas.
Our mission is ‘Unlocking Very Boy's Potential’ and we do this through personalised learning programmes for all who attend Medbury. Our learning programme is based on the New Zealand Curriculum, and boys are assessed against the National Standards and against the Medbury Standards. We have a modern and spacious campus, which enables our classroom and specialist teachers to create stimulating and engaging lessons, which capture the imagination of the boys in their classes. Our classroom programmes are innovative and technology is embraced throughout Medbury. Importantly, laptops and other devices are used to assist with the boys' learning, but not be the learning. I strongly believe that the balance between innovative learning and traditional expectations on bookwork and standards, sets Medbury apart from other schools.
I do hope that you find the information on this website useful, and I welcome the chance to meet with you and your son to show you around our amazing school.
