Richard was a member of the Medbury School Trust Board from 2013 to 2020, joining again in 2023. Richard is a Chartered Accountant and was awarded a Fellowship by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ). He holds a Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Finance from Massey University, is an Associate of the Executor and Trustee Institute and holds several governance roles. Richard is a born and bred Southlander and lives in Christchurch with his wife Maria.
A qualified solicitor, Nick has worked across a number of industries including Law, International Trade and most recently Software and Technology. Nick was an Executive at Seequent, a global geosciences software company for a number of years, and more recently sits on the board of a number of high growth software businesses.
Michelle is the Group Health, Safety, & Wellbeing Manager at PGG Wrightson Ltd. In addition to her knowledge and skills in these areas, Michelle brings to the Board her governance experience in the not-for-profit sector and her wide project management and general commercial experience in various industries. Michelle and Richard are the parents of Tom, who is a Medbury Old Boy.
Graduating from Lincoln University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Commerce, Andrew has over 20 years experience in the finance industry and has been with Forsyth Barr as an Investment Advisor for over 16 years, prior to this working for a major New Zealand bank. Andrew is an Authorised Financial Adviser (2011) and is accredited as an NZX Adviser. He specialises in managing personalised investment portfolios for a wide range of clients including individuals, family trusts and community organisations. Andrew is the father of three children, one of whom is at Medbury. Andrew is an appointed member of the Trust Board.
Andrew has been a commercial and corporate lawyer for over 20 years specialising in company establishment and restructuring, acquisition, disposing of companies, commercial undertakings, forming commercial joint ventures, banking and finance. He is a Medbury Old Boy and recently had a son at Medbury. Andrew spent 6 years on the Board of a state school including 3 years as Chair. He is involved in various governance roles, including his own business, and providing ongoing education on governance matters for entities such as the Law Society and the Institute of Directors. He is an appointed member of the Trust Board.
Jonathan is a construction industry advisor and strategist. He has a strong focus on organisational culture, project establishment, governance and delivery and offers significant project experience in roles both Client-side and Contractor-side. He provides Independent Construction advice and observation throughout Project Delivery, including planning, programme management, design & pre-construction advice, site observation and QA support through to project completion & occupation.
James is a qualified accountant and has extensive experience in senior management roles both in New Zealand and overseas. His 40-year career has been primarily spent in the service sector, with the last 10 years based in Singapore with overview responsibility for Finance, HR, IT and Governance matters across 19 Asian countries. Having returned to Christchurch, James now enjoys time with his children and grandchildren. James is a strong believer in the benefits offered to parents and students through having an independent school option. James is also a member of the Medbury School Foundation Board and a Trustee at Selwyn House. He is also a director of several private companies. James is a Medbury School Old Boy.
Sam has significant experience in Management Accounting and Corporate Finance and has always had a strong interest in financial technology and automation. He spent 3 years in Hong Kong working for a niche consulting firm which allows him to bring a different approach to the businesses he works with. Sam has extensive experience in budgeting, forecasting, project management and business strategy. He is a Qualified Chartered Accountant in New Zealand and a Certified Public Accountant in Hong Kong. Sam is a committee member of the Medbury School Old Boys' Association.
Gretchen is a Chartered Organisational Psychologist with extensive experience in consulting and in-house roles. She specialises in organisational development, transformational change, team functioning, and leadership development. After completing her graduate studies, Gretchen joined a leading New Zealand consulting firm as an organisational development and executive recruitment specialist. She then moved client side as the Head of Organisational Development and subsequently, the Head of Human Resources in a multi-national agribusiness. In 2018 Gretchen founded a specialist consulting firm which collaborates with a wide range of organisations to achieve their strategic objectives. She has completed assignments in New Zealand, Australia, Europe, South America and North America. Gretchen is married to Nick, and they have two sons at Medbury.
Hilary Walton is an experienced governance professional with a strong background in technology, risk management, and digital culture. Currently a Technology Strategist at Microsoft, she has held key roles such as CISO at Kordia Group and strategic positions at MI5 and the London 2012 Olympics. With expertise in AI, cybersecurity, and digital transformation, Hilary is committed to ethical and effective technological advancements. She serves on the Christchurch City Council’s Audit and Risk Management Committee, demonstrating her dedication to robust governance practices. An accomplished author and digital influencer, Hilary shares her insights through her book on security culture and her "Digital Culture Ideas" YouTube and podcast show. As a board member, Hilary aims to leverage her extensive experience to support Medbury School in achieving its strategic goals, ensuring that the institution continues to uphold its values of integrity, excellence, and innovation.

Gavin has substantial experience in financial markets and corporate finance, having worked in the banking sector in New Zealand, UK and Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong, Gavin oversaw Treasury management across multiple North Asia sites for an Australasian bank.Upon returning to Christchurch, Gavin was initially a Director of a commercial property investment company, before joining a local boutique investment banking firm where he now focuses on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and corporate advisory mandates.Gavin is a CFA® Charterholder and holds degrees from the University of Canterbury in Commerce and Science. He is married to Charmaine, and they have two sons who attend Medbury.
