Candidates are required to sit a series of written examinations set to a standard suited to academically able students of that year group. Academic examinations will take place at Medbury School on Thursday 22 May.

Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview on Friday 6th June with the Headmaster as part of the selection process.

Conditions of Entry

  • The Year 5 Academic scholarship is open to current Year 4 students who will be under the age of nine years and six months on 1 August 2026.
  • The Year 7 Academic or Music scholarship is open to current Year 7 students who will be under the age of eleven years and six months on 1 August 2026.
  • Academic scholarship examinations are based on the state school syllabus for the year and will be set and marked by the Deputy Headmaster and senior staff. 
  • All applicants are required to submit their most recent school report as part of their scholarship application.
  • Short-listed candidates will be invited to interview with the Headmaster and scholarships are awarded following a successful interview.
  • Scholarships are reviewed annually and are subject to the boy's behaviour and attitude throughout the year. 
  • A student is only eligible to hold one Medbury Scholarship at a time.
  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or hold permanent residency.
