Medbury boys have once again demonstrated their exceptional problem-solving skills on the national stage.
After earning a coveted spot at the 2024 Future Problem Solving Nationals, the School’s Year 6 team, comprising Hojun Kwon, Alex Radecki, Pax Read, and Louis Tian competed successfully in the National competition in Auckland last weekend.
What is Future Problem Solving?
Global Issues Problem Solving (GIPS) challenges students to think critically and creatively about real-world issues. Working in teams of four, students delve into a futuristic scenario, identifying challenges and developing innovative solutions. The process involves a six-step method that encourages flexibility, creativity, humaneness, and futuristic thinking. The 68 Medbury boys involved in FPS explored this year’s Tourism, Urbanisation, and Antarctica topics. The National Finals focused on the complex issue of Autonomous Transportation.
Achievements
Achieving an invitation to compete at the nationals is a challenging and sort-after accolade, and Medbury secured third place in the primary division of the GIPS category in this competition.
Medbury won first place in the Preparation of Action Plan (PAP) Competition, across Year 6 and 7 divisions. Teams were required to write and perform a drama showcasing their action plans. The Medbury team created an outstanding comedic presentation, cleverly named, ‘Rapunzel and the Glitch’.
Alex Radecki earned first place in the Primary Scenario Writing competition. In this category, students craft captivating 1500-word futuristic narratives. This is an exceptional achievement.
Well done boys!
